New York State requires every licensed real estate salesperson and broker to complete 22.5 hours of approved continuing education during each two-year license term. REEDU’s CE package covers all six mandated topics and the electives you need to reach the full 22.5 hours, in one enrollment.
Everything is online and self-paced. There is no live session to attend, no webcam, and no fixed schedule. Start at any hour, stop when you need to, and pick up where you left off. You receive a certificate for each course you complete, and your hours are reported to the Department of State.
Courses are approved by the New York Department of State. Once your hours are complete, you file your renewal through your own eAccessNY account.
All 22.5 hours must be completed before your license expires. New York does not allow carryover credit, so hours earned beyond the requirement do not roll into your next term. Of the 22.5 hours, 11.5 are fixed to specific mandated topics and the remaining 11 are electives you choose.

Every licensed real estate salesperson and every licensed real estate broker in New York must complete 22.5 hours of approved continuing education within each two-year license term.
Brokers licensed for 15 years or more were once exempt. That exemption was removed by legislative amendment, and all previously exempt brokers have been required to complete continuing education since July 1st, 2021. If you stopped taking CE under the old exemption, you are no longer exempt.
If your license has already expired, you have two years from the expiration date to renew. You cannot perform any activity requiring a New York real estate license during that time.
Ten approved courses covering every mandated topic. Start today, finish at your own pace.
Real Estate EDU gave me all the tools I needed to pass and get licensed, including practice quizzes. I appreciated how I could learn at my own pace without feeling lost.

Step 1 — Check your expiration date. Your license term runs two years. The Department of State sends a postcard to your business address and an email to the address on your eAccessNY account when renewal opens, but the deadline is yours to track. You can confirm your expiration date any time through the DOS license lookup.
Step 2 — Complete 22.5 hours of approved continuing education. All hours must be finished before your license expires. There is no grace period that lets you keep working while lapsed.
Step 3 — Collect your certificates. REEDU issues a certificate for each course you complete and reports your hours to the Department of State. Keep your certificates — you are responsible for producing them if you are audited.
Step 4 — Renew through eAccessNY. Log in to your eAccessNY account, complete the renewal application and pay the state fee. Your CE must be recorded before the renewal will process.
Your renewal is filed with the state, not with REEDU. These are the official pages you’ll need along the way.
New York requires 22.5 hours of approved continuing education during each two-year license term. This applies to both salespersons and brokers.
In contrast, a broker acts as an intermediary between buyers and sellers, facilitating transactions and negotiating deals. Brokers require more extensive education and licensing, allowing them to work independently and supervise salespeople. They have the authority to run their own business and hire salespeople, offering a broader range of services and expertise in their field.
Of the 22.5 hours, 11.5 are fixed: 3 hours of fair housing, 2.5 hours of ethical business practices, 2 hours of cultural competency, 2 hours of implicit bias, 1 hour of recent legal matters and 1 hour on the law of agency. The remaining 11 hours are electives you choose.
Every two years. Your 22.5 hours must be complete before your license expires, and the cycle restarts with each renewal.
Yes. Salespersons renewing for the first time must complete 2 hours on the law of agency instead of 1, which makes 12.5 mandated hours and 10 elective hours. The 22.5-hour total is the same.
Yes. All 22.5 hours can be completed through approved online self-paced courses. REEDU’s CE courses are online only — there is no live session, webcam or scheduled class time.

Every New York renewal requires all six of these.
Fair housing
Covers the history, key principles and legal framework of fair housing law, and how anti‑discrimination rules apply to everyday practice — showings, advertising, tenant screening and client communication.
Ethical business practices DOS #16119
The professional standards governing real estate practice, the duties licensees owe clients and customers, and how ethical obligations are applied and enforced. Runs 4 hours against a 2.5‑hour requirement, so the balance counts as elective credit.

Implicit bias DOS #16697
Examines implicit bias and the difference between conscious and unconscious bias, and how both affect decision‑making in real estate transactions.
Law of agency DOS #16115
The evolution of agency representation and why it exists, covering the agency relationships a New York licensee can hold and the disclosure duties attached to each. At 2 hours it satisfies first‑time renewals as well as standard ones.
Recent legal matters DOS #16727
Legal issues governing the ethical and lawful practice of real estate in New York State, taught through case studies and current best practice.
