Frequently Asked Questions

A salesperson is primarily responsible for selling products or services directly to customers, working within a dealership or company to assist with customer inquiries, provide product information, conduct sales, and finalize transactions. They typically require basic licensing and education and operate under the supervision of a broker or manager.

In contrast, a broker acts as an intermediary between buyers and sellers, facilitating transactions and negotiating deals. Brokers require more extensive education and licensing, allowing them to work independently and supervise salespeople. They have the authority to run their own business and hire salespeople, offering a broader range of services and expertise in their field.

You do not need to have any previous sales experience to become a salesperson, nor are there any prior education requirements. No GED required.

The length of the state exam for a real estate license varies depending on the state, but typically, the exam lasts between 2 to 4 hours. Most state exams are structured to include two parts: one covering general real estate principles and practices and the other focusing on state-specific laws and regulations.

Here are some examples of exam lengths for a few states:

  • California: 3 hours, 150 questions
  • Florida: 3.5 hours, 100 questions
  • New York: 1.5 hours, 75 questions
  • Texas: 4 hours, 125 questions

It’s important to check the specific requirements and structure of the real estate exam in the state where you plan to be licensed, as the format and time allotted can vary.
